HI, I'M CANDI
“Living in the Kootenays has paved a path that allows me to fulfil my dreams and passions”
As a child growing up in Cranbrook, my family and I were always in the mountains whether it was hiking, camping, fishing, skiing or biking. I moved to Creston, BC in 1999, where I was a Certified Dental Assistant for 22 years. In 2021 I completed the accredited Diploma Program of Holistic Nutrition at the Kootenay Columbia College of Integrative Health Sciences in Nelson, BC. I also completed the ICF-accredited Life Coach Certificate through Rhodes Wellness College.
I have always been active in the outdoors, whether it be mountain biking, hiking, backcountry skiing, paddle boarding and, of course, my true passion, trail running. I began competing and running half-marathons in 2003 and completed my first marathon in 2005 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. I have completed over 13 marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2012.
I soon found the repetitive terrain of road races was taking a toll on my mental and physical well-being. It was then I discovered trail and mountain running. Living in the Kootenays, there is no shortage of trails, mountain roads and peaks to explore. Here I could combine both running and hiking in the mountains into one. This led me to find a new passion for ultra-marathons and endurance running in the mountains; completing distances of 50 km, 80km, 100km, and 110km.
“The freedom that is felt running through the forest with just the sound of the leaves on the trees and birds chirping is a feeling that will never grow old“
Being a mother of two, it is an important value of mine to maintain my passion for running. My trail shoes are laced and I am out the door at 4:30-5:00 am to “get my run in” before the day starts with kids, family, work, and other daily commitments. Running outside in nature
supports stress as well as my physical, mental, and emotional health.
“Most importantly, by eating healthy and having an active lifestyle I am that role model to my children”
Holistic Nutrition focuses on whole, natural, nutrient-dense foods (mostly plants) and is bio-individuality (one size does not fit all). Along with focusing on diet, holistic nutrition also encompasses lifestyle, exercise/movement, stress management, sleep cycles, hormonal balance, and mindfulness to create optimum wellness. This is the best way to prevent many health problems and restore balance back to the individual.
“It essentially encompasses the Hippocratic philosophy of, “let food be thy medicine”.
As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Certified Life Coach, my mission is to teach and provide relevant empirically based knowledge to guide and support individuals with habit change, goal setting, and removing limiting beliefs so they can make the best choices for fulfilling their passions and life journey.
“I am excited to guide you”
